Presented by:
Pranita Vilkhu Adams, CIA - Internal Audit Team Lead, Ochsner Health

Webinar Description:

By now, everyone is aware of what drug diversion is and what the detrimental effects and consequences are if it’s occurring. In this webinar, we will share valuable information on how to perform an effective system drug diversion audit in the hospital, clinic, and pharmacy settings. This session will focus on the steps to take to assess the design and operating effectiveness of operational and IT controls in place to prevent, detect, respond to, and monitor drug diversion. Data analytics can be leveraged to test full populations of data and gain insight into controlled substance activity in these different settings. Continuous monitoring is essential to ensure drug diversion is timely detected and followed up on, and data analytics help organizations obtain this level of monitoring. Internal Audit’s collaboration with an organization’s interdisciplinary Drug Diversion Prevention and Response team and associated programs is a key factor in providing the most value and staying informed on updated processes and risks.

Learning Objectives:
Following this discussion, participants will be able to:
  1. Assess operational and IT controls for design and operating effectiveness.
  2. Devise an applicable drug diversion audit program to address prevention, detection, response, and monitoring.
  3. Utilize data analytics to create continuous auditing models.
