Webinar Description:
Clinical research is both exciting and full of regulatory risk. While involvement in clinical research allows provider organizations to offer cutting-edge treatments to patients and provides development opportunities for both the organization and the practitioner, it also introduces new and often unfamiliar risks. While financial and legal risks may be the most apparent risks, the clinical research revenue cycle is also a source of great risk due to Medicare regulations around clinical research billing. Medicare has very specific rules regarding billing items and services in a clinical research study. National Coverage Determination (NCD) 310.1 details these risks including billing for items and services that are promised free to the patient, billing for items and services that are paid for by the study sponsor, billing for items and services that are otherwise not billable. Clinical research revenue cycle compliance requires an understanding of the risks as well as collaboration of all players along the research revenue cycle. This session will review the regulatory risks, operational challenges, and best practices for compliance for clinical research billing.
