Sunil Shahani, MBA, CISA - Senior IT Auditor, Fairview Health Services
Webinar Description:
Few topics are hotter in auditing than data analytics and visualization. Unfortunately, many presentations and educational materials assume a level of resources not available to smaller internal audit departments such as Fairview and surely many others. Thankfully, we have not only found but are increasing ways to apply data analytical and visualization concepts and techniques to much of our work.
It is the goal of this presentation for attendees to learn how a small healthcare internal audit team with no dedicated analyst and limited access to databases and tools can still use data analytics and visualization to add a lot of value to their organization. We will begin by introducing what is and isn’t available to our Internal Audit team in terms of data, staff, and tools. We will then review how, despite what we don't have, we have been able to apply data analytics and visualization techniques in audits and engagements, drawing on examples from work done in revenue cycle, payroll, and vendor management. We will also go over how we extend these techniques to our reporting of audit activity to senior management and the Board of Directors. Finally, we will discuss how our Internal Audit team is growing analytical and visualization capabilities through developing ongoing monitoring from resources created in audits and engagements. Along the way, we hope to keep the floor open for questions and discussion to allow for a more interactive session.
Learning Objectives:
Following this discussion, participants will be able to:
