Erin Walker, CHC, CHP, Consulting Manager, PYA, P.C.
Erin has extensive experience advising on HIPAA and regulatory compliance consulting matters—specifically compliance program development and implementation, HIPAA and regulatory compliance program and program documentation reviews. She assists with developing, documenting, and implementing policies and procedures, conducting compliance program and compliance risk assessments, and the HIPAA Privacy and Security Risk Analysis process. A former HITRUST Authorized CSF Assessor, Erin also regularly assists with risk mitigation compliance, implementing regulatory requirements and developing training programs.
 
Karin Anderson, JD, Consulting Principal, PYA, P.C.
Karin holds more than 30 years of healthcare regulatory and legal experience focused on compliance with laws necessary for operations, company reputation, and risk reduction. Her focus areas include privacy/HIPAA/cybersecurity, compliance with healthcare laws and regulations, and management of government matters related to fraud and abuse laws (False Claims Act, Stark, Anti-Kickback) and healthcare operations. In her experience working as corporate counsel at publicly traded and nonprofit healthcare corporations, she represented hospital systems, healthcare facilities, and providers. With prior experience as an R.N. in academic health systems and work in quality and risk management, Karin assists providers with clinical operations assessments to help clients implement best practices. Karin is a licensed and practicing attorney in PYA’s Legal Department and advises the firm on legal matters involving privacy, contracts, and business operations.

Patients now have more control over their health information, including rights to access, correct, and request restrictions on the sharing of their PHI. This also includes updates on how organizations must handle patient consent and disclosure requests. Further, with the rise of telemedicine, there have been updates on how patient data is managed in virtual care settings. This session will provide the latest information related to HIPAA compliance and enforcement as well as practical guidance to assist your organization with continued privacy program protections.
